"We're applying for permission to open mBank branches in the Czech Republic and Slovakia ... next week," said Slawomir Lachowski, BRE Bank's chief executive. "We expect to be able to launch in the second half of the year."
"We expect (our operations) in the Czech Republic and Slovakia will become profitable after four years," Lachowski added.
The mid-sized Polish lender recorded 2006 net profits of 421 million zlotys ($145.9 million) up from 248 million zlotys in 2005.
