NOTE. The CSU added that the sliding average rate of
inflation over the past 12 months was 2.2 percent.
The statistics office updated the basket of goods and
services used to calculate the Consumer Price Index (CPI) as of
January 2007, rebasing it to 2005 and raising the weight of
housing as well as transport costs at the expense of foodstuffs.
Analysts polled by Reuters had predicted that month-on-month
consumer prices rose in March 0.3 percent, which would have put
the year-on-year inflation rate at 1.9 percent
.
