CEZ says bids for Belene nuclear plant stake

The European Union newcomer has contracted Russia's Atomstroyexport, 49.8 percent controlled by gas firm Gazprom , in a consortium with France's Areva and Germany's Siemens to build the 2,000 megawatt plant due to be opened in 2014.

Apart from CEZ, Italy's Enel , Czech CEZ , Russia's Unified Energy System , Germany's E.ON , France's EdF , Belgium's Tractabel and Spain's Iberdrola had expressed initial interest in owning and running the plant.

Bulgaria plans to pick the new investor by year-end.
