Poland close to EU treaty deal - French source

"We are on the verge of an agreement," the source said, amid efforts by President Nicolas Sarkozy to win Warsaw round to arrangements proposed by the German EU presidency.

Poland was virtually alone in objecting to previous proposals as being unfairly weighted in favour of large countries, especially Germany.
