The Czech central bank (CNB) has recommended that the government set no target date for adopting the euro as the country's currency, CNB...

...policymaker Mojmir Hampl told Reuters on Monday.

"The decision of the bank board as the CNB's supreme decision-making board has been to avoid setting an entry target data at this point," Hampl said in a brief telephone interview.

The CNB and the Finance Ministry have been holding talks on a draft euro adoption strategy for the cabinet after excessive fiscal gaps forced the government to abandon 2010 as the target date for gaining entry to Europe's single currency zone.

The CNB's decision sets the stage for a clash with Finance Minister Miroslav Kalousek, who has repeatedly spoken in favour of anchoring the government's efforts to reform deficit-ridden public finances. He has proposed 2012 as a possible target date.
