The Czech Republic will back the EU's nominee for the top post at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) instead of former central bank chief...

...and Prime Minister Josef Tosovsky, Deputy Prime Minister Alexandr Vondra said on Wednesday.

"Mr. Tosovsky is not the Czech Republic's candidate," Vondra told Reuters through an assistent.

"The Czech Republic coordinated its stance on appointing the IMF managing director within the EU. The result of this coordination had been an agreement that the candidate supported by the EU, and thus also by the Czech Republic, is Dominique Strauss-Kahn."

Tosovsky was nominated by Russia earlier on Wednesday.
