BRATISLAVA, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Slovakia's main airport is relocating 1,000 squirrels living in meadows nearby because they threaten air...

...traffic safety and are blocking airport expansion.

"They settled in an area where construction works will start shortly. They also draw the attention of feathered predators, which directly threatens air traffic safety," Bratislava airport spokeswoman Zora Kalouskova said.

The country's biggest colony of susliks -- one of numerous ground squirrel species -- will be moved to fields near the western village of Kuchyna, 40 km (25 miles) away, where conservationists have already drilled holes to house them.
