Five European utilities have placed bids to acquire 49 percent in a planned 2,000 megawatt nuclear power plant in Bulgaria, estimated to cost...

...over 5.0 billion euros, an official said on Wedensday.

Italy's Enel , Germany's E.ON and RWE , Czech CEZ and Belgium's Electrabel, part of French utility Suez , filed their initial offers before a Wednesday deadline, an official at the state utility NETC which handles the process told Reuters.

France's EDF , which had earlier expressed intrest in the plant, to be built at the Danube river site of Belene, did not file an offer.
