Slovak crown hits 8-mo peak vs euro on strong GDP

    The crown was at 32.860 per euro  as of 1200 GMT, 
after touching 32.840, its strongest level since March 20, 
earlier in the session. It closed at 32.965 on Monday. 
    "The euro/crown continues in its trend. Both Friday's 
foreign trade and today's GDP pushed the crown below 33.0 for 
the first time since the end of March," said Slovenska 
Sporitelna dealer Juraj Zabadal. 
    The Slovak economy expanded by 9.4 percent on the year in 
the third quarter, matching the growth rate from the previous 
quarter, preliminary Statistics Office data showed on Tuesday. 
     Analysts, who had forecast a 8.6 percent GDP rise in the 
third quarter, said growth was not raising inflation fears as a 
large contribution seemed to have come from foreign demand. 
     Foreign trade data surprised the market on Friday with a 
surplus of 4.7 billion crowns for September. 
    The crown is now 5.3 percent up against the euro this year 
and 7.3 percent above its parity within the ERM-2 exchange rate 
mechanism. 
    Traders said the unit was likely to approach its March 
record highs of 32.710 per euro in the short run if a favourable 
mood on emerging markets prevails, traders said. 
    "Now, the target is 32.670-700 per euro," Zabadal said.
