coalition if it backed a state official responsible for a 
disputed land deal.

    SLOVAKIA ON TRACK FOR '09 EURO ENTRY-DEPUTY FINMIN 
    Slovakia is on track to adopt the euro in 2009 despite a 
jump in inflation and will seek to dispel any doubts that it can 
keep a lid on price growth, a deputy finance minister said on 
Tuesday.

    Q3 GDP BEATS FORECAST ON STRONGER TRADE 
    The Slovak economy grew a real 9.4 percent annually in the 
third quarter of 2007, data showed on Tuesday, and analysts said 
growth beat market expectations thanks to stronger exports.

    CROWN HITS 8-MO PEAK VS EURO ON STRONG GDP 
    The Slovak crown rose to eight-month highs against the euro 
on Tuesday after data showed faster than expected economic 
growth for the third quarter, traders said.

    CBANK DRAINS SKK 162.99 BLN IN REPO TENDER 
    The Slovak central bank (NBS) accepted all bids in a regular 
two-week repo tender on Tuesday, draining 162.985 billion crowns 
($7.22 billion) from the market, NBS data showed.

    GOVERNMENT NEAR COLLAPSE 
    The government coalition of Prime Minister Robert Fico has 
never been closer to a collapse than in the current crisis. 
Fico's Smer party and a junior coalition member HZDS clash over 
land deals and they have exchange warnings of breakup of the 
coalition.

    MECIAR'S MOVE KEY IN CRISES 
    The next move of HZDS leader, Vladimir Meciar, will be the 
key in further development of the government crises. Only Meciar 
can decide whether HZDS will dismiss the land administration 
official criticised by Fico for the disputed land deal. The 
current crisis is unlikely to lead to a breakup of the 
coalition.

    HIGHWAY LAWS 
    Constitutional lawyers in parliament said a transport 
ministry draft law aimed at speeding up highway construction was 
against the Constitution. The draft, designed to secure easier 
access to land for highways, was approved into proper 
parliamentary hearing anyway.
