    FARMERS: Pig farmers demonstrated at the Agriculture 
Ministry in Prague on Tuesday and demanded 1 billion crowns in 
subsidies. Minister Petr Gandalovic responded that EU rules do 
not allow the government to pay such subsidies.

    HYUNDAI PLANT CONSTRUCTION: Hyundai Motor , 
South Korea's top auto maker, is having difficulties meeting the 
requirements for some building at its 1.1 billion euro factory 
in the northeast of the Czech Republic. A local 
building-inspection office may require the company to tear down 
three buildings at the site of the plant. Hyundai can still 
avoid having to do that if it applies for a construction permit 
change. The plans should make 200,000 passenger cars a year.
