 ======================= PRESS DIGEST ==========================
    "CANCER OF THE MAFIA": Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek said

    RULING PARTY FULLY BEHIND INCUMBENT PRESIDENT: Ruling Civic
Democrats (ODS) united behind President Vaclav Klaus, the
party's honorary chairman and founding father, to support his
re-election bid. All 122 ODS lawmakers signed Klaus' nomination
petition. Election is expected early next year. Klaus needs to
solicit the support of additional 19 lower house deputies or
members of the Senate from other parties to win re-election.
President holds largely ceremonial role, but plays an
instrumental part in forming a government after a general
election, and appoints central bank policymakers and
constitutional court judges.
