Slovak crown off one-week highs as govt in crisis

...Prime Minister Robert Fico wants to end the ruling coalition.

The crown fell as low as 33.450 to the euro from a one-week high of 33.220 hit earlier in the session, after centrist HZDS chief Vladimir Meciar said that Fico told him that he does not want to maintain the coalition.

The crown recovered slightly to trade at 33.385 by 1415 GMT after the news that most HZDS deputies may stay in the coalition and back the budget for next year when the country wants to make final strides towards euro adoption in 2009.

"The crown moved in a reaction to Meciar. It will continue weakening if there are more (domestic) negative influences," said one dealer with a foreign bank. (Reporting by Marek Petrus)
