GOVERNMENT TALKS

Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, and leader of the rightist Civic Democrats, is expected to hold further talks on a new government.

The leftist Czech Social Democrats said on Monday they were ready to participate in forming a government to end a parliamentary stalemate that followed an inconclusive June general election.

Social Democrat leader Jiri Paroubek is quoted as saying in the daily Hospodarske Noviny that he is willing to agree to a gradual decrease in corporate taxes to 20 percent.

S&P RATINGS AFFIRMED

Standard & Poor's affirmed its 'A-/A-2' foreign currency and 'A/A-1' local currency sovereign credit ratings on Czech Republic, with a positive outlook, saying medium-term prospects for economic growth remained good.

CROWN NEARS RECORD HIGHS

The Czech crown firmed within sight of all-time highs against the euro on Monday, benefiting from a bullish mood in central Europe and partly also from news that S&P confirmed the country's credit ratings.

COAL MINER TAKES LOAN TO PREPARE FOR IPO

Czech coal group OKD has agreed to draw 720 million euros ($924 million) before the end of this year via a syndicated credit from a group of 13 international banks led by Citigroup <C.N> to prepare for a planned initial public offering.
