SOFIA, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Bulgaria's dominant state electricity utility NETC said on Monday it had chosen a group led by Russia's Atomstroyexport to build a new 2,000 megawatt nuclear power plant at the Danube town of Belene.

"Today NETC's board of directors chose Atomstroyexport to build two 1,000 megawatt blocks at Belene," NETC said in a statement.

Atomstroyexport, in which Russia's Gazprom <GAZP.MM> has a 49 percent stake, has teamed up with France's Areva and Germany's Siemens <SIEGn.DE>.

The consortium beat a Czech group led by Skoda JS, which is owned by Gazprom-controlled OMZ <OMZZ.RTS>. NETC was not available for comment but said it would give more details at a news conference on Tuesday.
