Czech budget expert Eduard Janota was appointed deputy finance minister on Thursday, returning to steer the country's public sector finances...

...just over three months after being sacked.

Janota was fired by previous finance minister Vlastimil Tlusty after he complained that Tlusty had overstated the size of public debt in public advertisements published soon after he took over office.

New Finance Minister Miroslav Kalousek, a member of the centrist Christian Democrats, re-installed Janota on Thursday as a deputy minister, one step below the position of first deputy minister which he had held before.

Janota was a long-standing fixture at the ministry, having joined it in 1978. In 1992, he took charge of the ministry's budget department, and in 1999 became a deputy minister.

Janota is known in the international investment community for his deep knowledge of Czech financial issues.
