Czech striker Milan Baros has joined Olympique Lyon from Aston Villa in exchange for Norway striker John Carew, the Ligue 1 team's coach Gerard Houllier announced on Monday.

The 25-year-old Baros used to play for Houllier when the Lyon coach was in charge at Premier League Liverpool.

The Czech Republic international, who joined Villa in August 2005 for 6.5 million pounds ($12.83 million), was still with Liverpool when he turned down an offer to join Lyon in 2005.

Baros, who has 47 caps, is the French champions's second signing of the transfer window after Sedan's Algeria defender Nadir Belhadj, who joined on a 4-1/2-year deal for a fee of 3.2 million euros ($4.14 million).

Ligue 1 leaders Lyon are bidding to become the first side from a major continental league to win six titles in succession but have been hampered by injuries to midfielder Alou Diarra and striker Karim Benzema among others.
