Telefonica O2 Slovakia has attracted 110,000 clients who activated their SIM cards within 12 days of the company's service launch in the...

...central European country, it said on Thursday.

Telefonica O2 Slovakia is a unit of Telefonica O2 Czech Republic, itself majority owned by the Spanish operator Telefonica .

Telefonica won a Slovak licence in August last year.

It has said it had registered 600,000 potential clients who showed interest in the firm's services.

Telefonica O2 Slovakia will compete with Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile and France Telecom unit Orange in Slovakia, a country of 5.4 million people.

Analysts have said the growth in the Slovak market was an important factor for the Czech Telefonica O2, the former fixed-line monopoly which also provides mobile services.
