Slovakia's unemployment rate rose to 11.81 percent in June, the highest level since January 2006, from 11.39 percent reported in May, the National Labour Office said on Monday.

Former reformist Prime Minister Mikulas Dzurinda ruled out cooperation with current Prime Minister Robert Fico and his Smer party after the 2010 general election. Dzurinda said Slovakia needed an overhaul of Fico's policies.

HIGHWAY PROJECT COSTS TO RISE
Fico's government approved a hike in costs of the planned highway project in central Slovakia, to 1.8 billion euro from previous 1.5 billion euro, due to stressed financial markets. The cabinet also approved higher annual payments to the project's provider.
