LOWER VAT
Prime Minister Robert Fico said the government was considering lowering the value added tax (VAT) on selected goods and services in case of favourable economic trends. Fico did not give any details.

GAS PRICES
The dominant gas company Slovensky Plynarensky Priemysel (SPP) said prices approved by the state regulator for next year will not cover the cost of gas purchased from Russia. The regulator ruled last week to keep average gas prices for households flat next year.

SKYEUROPE POSTS RECORD LOSS
The Slovak-based low-cost airline SkyEurope <SKYV.VI> posted a record loss of 59.4 million euro ($76.86 million) in the fiscal year of 2007, up from 24.07 million euro loss in 2006. SkyEurope cited high fuel costs, worse market conditions as reasons.
