German Axel Springer <SPRGn.DE> is interested in buying Presspublica, the publisher of Polish daily Rzeczpospolita and business newspaper Parkiet, daily Gazeta Wyborcza reports. The company is jointly owned by British fund Mecom <MEC.L> and Poland's treasury.
AGORA
Media group Agora <AGOD.WA> says it completed the controversial purchase of the Polish arm of Internet classifieds business Trader.com for $54 million.

Shareholders of copper miner KGHM <KGHM.WA> to vote on 9 zloty/share dividend. Poland's treasury, which controls the company, has said it would likely back the proposal.

SOFHARMA
Bulgaria's drug maker Sopharma <SFARM.BB> plans to invest 8 million euros to build a new drug factory in Serbia by 2009, daily Pari reports.
BANCA CARPATICA
Romanian Banca Carpatica <BCCA.BX> denied on Wednesday that it is in talks to be acquired by Germany's Commerzbank after local media reported rumours of a takeover earlier in the day, Business Standard reports.
The bank's stock was suspended from trading on the Bucharest bourse after its shares gained 15 percent on the day.
MVN, RWE
Hungarian power wholesaler MVM plans to join German utility RWE <RWEG.DE> in a project worth 800 million euros ($1.24 billion) to expand capacity at RWE's plant in northern Hungary, national daily Nepszabadsag reports. [

PEKAO
Europe's fourth-largest bank UniCredit <CRDI.MI>, the parents of Polish Pekao <BAPE.WA> confirms its earnings target and said it aimed for compound annual EPS growth of 10-12 percent under its 2008-2010 strategic plan. [

VISTULA
The creator of one of Poland's leading jewellery chain W.Kruk <KRUK.WA> might have lost the battle for control, but he has not given up and has began to build a stake in Vistula <VIST.WA>, which won the hostile takeover. [

GENERALI
Generali PPF Holding, a joint venture based in the Czech Republic between Italy's biggest insurer Generali <GASI.MI> and international finance group PPF, signs a deal to buy local insurers Ardaf and RAI from PPF Investments for an undisclosed amount, Ziarul Financiar reports.
BECHTEL
Global engineering and construction company Bechtel will need over 8,000 workers at its Transilvania motorway project in Romania in 2010, a firm official tells Ziarul Financiar.
The company, which started work on the 415-kilometer motorway worth billions of euros in 2004, currently employs close to 3,000 people. The project should be completed in 2013.
EUROPEAN MARKETS
European stocks are seen retreating on Thursday, trimming some of the previous session's gains as a drop in oil prices puts pressure on heavyweight energy stocks, but the fall could be limited as lower oil eases worries over costs.
