])** Prudential's <PRU.L> bid for rival AIG's <AIG.N> Asian unit appeared close to collapse after AIG rejected the British insurer's lowered offer of $30.38 billion in cash and shares.

]** AT&T Inc <T.N>, the biggest U.S. phone company by revenue, will sell part of its Japanese operations to Internet Initiative Japan <3774.T> for $101 million, the Internet access service provider said. [
]** Channel Tunnel operator Eurotunnel <GETP.PA> is buying Britain's third-largest rail freight operator, GBRf, from UK transport company FirstGroup <FGP.L> for 26.3 million euros ($32 million) in cash, it said. [
]** British printer St Ives Plc <SIV.L> agreed to buy database firm Occam DM Ltd for 12 million pounds ($17.4 million) in cash and shares to expand its customer base and expected full-year operating results to exceed its previous estimates. [
]** Guoco Group Ltd <0053.HK>, controlled by Malaysian billionaire Quek Leng Chan, paid $8.6 million to raise its stake in Bank of East Asia <0023.HK>, the city's fifth-largest bank, to 9.12 percent from 8.99 percent. [
