TOKYO, Dec 18 (Reuters) - Gold prices steadied near $1,100 per ounce on Friday after falling 3 percent in the previous session, pressured by the dollar's rise against the euro, which reduced the precious metal's appeal.
FUNDAMENTALS
* Spot gold <XAU=> was at $1,101.00 per ounce at 2345 GMT, up 0.3 percent from New York's notional close of $1,097.80.
* Gold is now trading about 10 percent below a record high of $1,226.10 hit on Dec. 3.
* U.S. gold futures for February delivery <GCG0> fell 0.4 percent to $1,102.5 an ounce on the COMEX division of the NYMEX.
* Futures hit a record high $1,227.50 on Dec. 3.
* The world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, SPDR Gold Trust <GLD>, said its holdings held steady at 1,120.514 tonnes as of Dec 17. [

* The dollar rose to its highest level against the euro in more than three months on Thursday, a day after the Federal Reserve drew attention to the improvement in the U.S. economy and stood by plans to wind down most of its emergency lending by February. [
]* U.S. stocks fell on Thursday as the dollar's rebound spurred safe-haven trade, cutting demand for riskier assets. [
]* U.S. crude oil <CLc1> settled down 1 cent at $72.65 per barrel on Thursday, after falling to near $71 as the dollar strengthened and U.S. unemployment claims rose, although a cold spell in the U.S. northeast provided support.
