TOKYO, Jan 25 (Reuters) - Gold rose on Monday, after the dollar edged down, helping bullion come off a one-month low hit in the previous session when President Barack Obama's proposal to limit risk-taking by banks pressured commodities across the board.
FUNDAMENTALS
* Spot gold <XAU=> was at $1,094.60 per ounce as of 0020 GMT, up about 0.3 percent from New York's notional close of $1,091.65, after earlier rising as high as $1,097.60.
* It touched a one-month low of $1,081.90 on Friday, although the dollar's decline provided some support.
* U.S. gold futures for February delivery <GCG0> rose 0.4 percent to $1,094.30 per ounce, compared to $1,089.70, the settlement on the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. It sank to a one-month low of $1,081.90 on Friday.
* The world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, SPDR Gold Trust <GLD>, said its holdings stood at 1,111.922 tonnes as of Jan. 22, unchanged from the previous business day. [
]* Noncommercial net long U.S. gold futures positions fell 3.4 percent to 221,469 lots in the week to Jan. 19 from 229,342 lots, a weekly report by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission showed. [
]MARKET NEWS
* U.S. stocks capped their worst three-day slide in 10 months on Friday on fears the White House's plan to curb bank risk-taking would cut profits, and tech shares slumped after Google Inc's disappointing results. [
]* The yen and the U.S. dollar dipped on Monday while the euro and high-yielding currencies advanced, lifted by reports that Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke was moving closer towards confirmation for a second term. [
