SINGAPORE, Dec 10(Reuters) - Spot gold held steady on Thursday, as uncertainty in Ireland's debt problem resurfaced and continued to support safe haven demand for bullion.
FUNDAMENTALS
* Spot gold was little changed at $1,387.76 an ounce by 0042 GMT.
* U.S. gold futures lost 0.3 percent to $1,389 an ounce.
* Ireland's debt woe continued to grab attention from investors, as Fitch downgraded the country's rating, and the opposition party said it would vote against the bailout package. [
][ ]* The euro won some reprieve early in Asia on Friday, having come under renewed pressure overnight following Fitch's downgrade of Ireland's sovereign rating, while the dollar sagged as strong demand at a 30-year Treasury bond auction knocked yields lower.
* U.S. Treasuries rose in price on Thursday, retracing a portion of a dramatic sell-off earlier this week, after an auction of 30-year bonds was met with strong demand.
* The head of Coeur d'Alene Mines Corp , the world's biggest silver miner, said gold and silver would benefit from continuing economic uncertainty. [
]* Holdings in the SPDR Gold Trust, the world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, continued to slip, down 1.518 tonnes to 1,293.778 tonnes by Dec 9.
* But holdings in iShares Silver Trust, the world's largest silver-backed exchange-traded fund, stayed at its all-time high at 10,941.34 tonnes.
* Spot silver edged up 0.2 percent to $28.76 an ounce.
MARKET NEWS
* U.S. stocks edged up on Thursday, with the benchmark S&P 500 closing at a two-year high, a trend investors expect to continue through the rest of the year.
