Slovakia's dominant gas utility SPP said on Monday it had signed a 10-year contract on gas supplies with one of its western owners to secure stable deliveries in case Russia cuts the flow to Europe via Ukraine.

SMER KEEPS POPULARITY LEAD
The Smer party of Prime Minister Robert Fico remains the most popular party with 44.8 percent support, followed by the main opposition SDKU faction with 17.5 percent, a survey by the Polis agency showed. The junior government party SNS finished third with 6.1 percent.

POCIATEK RICHEST MINISTER
Finance Minister Jan Pociatek remained the richest minister of Robert Fico's government, according to income filings. Pociatek reported income of 30 million crowns last year. State officials are required to report income, but do not have to disclose details of the source of the revenues.

CHEAPER GAS
The gas firm SPP is preparing a cut in prices for households by up to 5 percent in the autumn, sources said. The company and the economy ministry have declined to comment.
