SKODA H1 CAR SALES HIT RECORD: Sales for Volkswagen <VOWG.DE> unit Skoda Auto rose 15 percent year-on-year to a record 378,747 cars in the first half, boosted by sales to China and Germany, the Czech carmaker said on Friday.

TAX DEDUCTIONS: Prime Minister Petr Necas said he could imagine eliminating a tax break for mortgage interest that should come into effect in 2012. LN, page 13.
DIRECT PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: The government will discuss a constitutional bill from the opposition Social Democrats on Wednesday that aims to switch presidential elections from a parliamentary to a direct vote. The ruling coalition wants to present such a law by the end of the year. LN, page 3.
HEALTHCARE FEES: Necas said a plan to raise fees that patients must pay for hospital visits or to see a specialist doctor in 2011 may be delayed until 2012. HN, page 1.
