TOKYO, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Gold prices steadied a little below $1,120 on Wednesday, a day after erasing early gains as the dollar strengthened against the euro.
FUNDAMENTALS
* Spot gold <XAU=> was at $1,118.15 an ounce as of 0017 GMT, compared to New York's notional close of $1,118.10. It has so far moved between $1,115.60 and $1,119.75.
* U.S. gold futures for February delivery <GCG0> were at $1,119.50, up about 0.1 percent.
* Platinum and palladium jumped to their highest prices in well over a year on Tuesday, on anticipation of industrial demand spurred by strong December sales by Ford Motor Co <F.N>.
* The world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, SPDR Gold Trust <GLD>, said its holdings stood at 1,128.745 tonnes as of Jan. 5, unchanged from the previous business day. [
]* The world's largest silver-backed exchange-traded fund, the iShares Silver Trust <SLV>, said its silver holdings stood at 9,488.81 tonnes as of Jan. 5, down 0.04 percent from the previous business day. [
]MARKET NEWS
* The euro fell from a three-week high versus the dollar in choppy trading on Tuesday. The dollar suffered its sharpest dip against the yen in nearly a month, however, as weak U.S. housing data lowered expectations of a rate hike any time soon. [
]* The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq rose on Tuesday as better-than-expected factory orders and a surge in vehicle sales by Ford provided more evidence of an economic recovery. [
